If you are moving to Chile  and plan to ship your household goods and personal effects, there are customs regulations in Chile you need to consider.
Below are Chile’s rules and regulations regarding the importation of used household goods and personal belongings.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR MOVING TO CHILE AND SHIPPING HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS TO CHILE

  • Visa
  • Work Contract
  • Power of Attorney
  • Household goods and personal effects inventory (each liftvan in shipment must have separate inventory for clearance)

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS FOR MOVING TO CHILE AND SHIPPING HOUSEHOLD GOODS TO CHILE

  • CUSTOMER MUST BE IN COUNTRY AT TIME OF CUSTOMS CLEARANCE OF HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS
  • Returning Chileans and anyone coming to work in Chile are exempt from duties on their household goods and personal effects

DUTIABLE AND RESTRICTED HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS  ITEMS

  • Sporting guns (owner must obtain carrying permit at the Weapons Control Bureau)
  • Alcohol and tobacco products
  • New furniture is dutiable (invoices required)
  • Caviar, pearls, synthetic furs, uncut precious, semi-precious or synthetic stones (only for personal use)

PROHIBITED HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS ITEMS

  • Firearms/weapons
  • Drugs (unless for medical purposes)
  • Pornographic material

MOTOR VEHICLES

  • Duties are very high and are based on make, model, year, engine’s cubic capacity, transmission type, extras, and purchase value
  • Only returning Chileans and duty exempted persons may import USED vehicles
  • Documents required:
    • Original Invoice of Purchase

PETS

  • Health Certificate with appropriate vaccinations required
